Thanksgiving + Whiskey; How to Pair Your Meal
The holiday season is a time of year we always look forward to and with Thanksgiving fast approaching, we found ourselves thinking about our menu and subsequently, how to pair our whiskeys with the fare. Fortunately the traditional, rich style of dishes commonly served on Thanksgiving work out beautifully for pairing with whiskey. We’ve broken things down a bit down a bit for easy reference.
Dinner Pairing: We recommend Batch No.1 to pair with your Thanksgiving meal. The sweet caramel notes, as well as the slight hint of smokiness and fine oak are enough to stand up to the richness of holiday dishes – think gravy, breads, stuffing – but should also compliment the turkey exceptionally well. For those of you who smoke your turkey, Batch No. 1 should be a knockout match.
Dessert Pairing: When it comes to dessert, Batch No.2 or No.3 are perfect complements. The sweetness of the food is an elegant match to these warmer renditions of our whiskey, aged respectively in ex rum and ex port barrels. Batch No. 2 is a delicious accompaniment to an apple or fruit pie, while creamier and nutty pies like pumpkin and pecan benefit from the smooth finish of Batch No. 3.
Nightcap: As the day winds down, simply reach for your go-to bottle of Wanderback for a little nightcap. We often find ourselves with a glass in hand as we head out for a walk in the chilly evening air at the Farm or gather around the fire pit. Whichever you choose, the combination of whiskey and some fresh air is sure to be the perfect combination and help you to unwind after a long day of cooking and festivities.
We’ll be incorporating more holiday pairings and festivities over the next two months. To say up to date, tune in to our Instagram and Facebook feeds or sign up for our email, where you’ll be the first to know about new releases, events and specials.
